Free hosting review: Freehostia. No ads
Free hosting WITHOUT advertisments.
There are thousands and thousands of “free hosting” companies. Many of them are designed to get you to pay for extra features.
Most companies will do this by letting you create and upload your site, and probably rely on you then realising you need an SQL database, and have to pay extra in order for this feature.
So how can you find a good, free, hosting company?
There are a few different ways where you can compare hosting companies, although any that I find I will post here on this blog. When I first started designing websites I had a look for free hosting websites and a very good one that I found is FreeHostia.
FreeHostia is great becuase it offers you many different features. Although you are not going to get getting 600GB of web space like some people say they offer, you have a considerable amount that you probably won’t exceed anyway:
- 250MB webspace
- FTP access
- SQL databases
- 5GB bandwidth
- You can use your own domains.
One of the main features is very important if you want to make money online.
You are allowed your own ads.
So why is it so important that you are allowed your own ads?
It is the number one way of making money with your website.
Back on the topic of FreeHostia, I would just like to point out why I left and moved to paid hosting:
- Even though you are allowed SQL database, you can only have 1 or 2 otherwise you have to pay to update.
- You have to pay a massive amount for domain names (although you CAN get them from elsewhere, easily).
- There are no addon domains (meaning you cannot control more than 1 site from the same account and control panel).
If you’ve got a bit of money to spend, it’s not worth saving $5 or whatever it costs to get paid hosting elsewhere. I reccomend you viewing my HostGator review. If you have chosen FreeHostia as your new host, then here’s the signup link:
